Calabrese is a type of salami that is traditionally made with pork and has a spicy flavor due to the addition of Calabrian hot peppers. Anytime you see the word "Calabrese" or "Calabrian," it's usually a sign that the product is a bit spicy - and the salami is no exception! Calabrian hot peppers are added to this traditionally pork-only salami, giving it a fiery bite that's delicious on pizzas, in sandwiches, or even on charcuterie boards... as long as proper warning is given to your guests! While it is spicy, it has that signature warmth of flavor that comes along with Calabrian peppers, too, and it's a delicious salami to eat. Salami refers to a cured meat, often sausage. The word "cured" refers to a preservation method mainly using salt, which draws out the moisture of a food product and increases its longevity. Salami is fermented and air-dried, and it's almost always made of pork. For the record, there are hundreds of varieties of Italian salami - so we'll just be covering the ones you'll most likely find at the store. Additionally, even the most traditional types of salami can be made in different ways across Italy - just know that it's all good, and you can't go wrong! It is almost always characterized by its larger, coarser grind of the meat, as opposed to being finely ground. It's perfect for cheese boards.

This Calabrese Salami is hot and spicy. Made in Canada following strict Italian recipes, this flavor of this salami is identical to the traditional pressed and cured salumi from the Southern Italian region of Calabria. The unique shape of this flat Calabrese created a lovely silhouette on a pizza, antipasto plate or sandwich.

Pork, sea salt, contains less than 2% of the following: Turbinado sugar, natural flavoring, wine, sweet paprika, garlic, lactic acid starter culture.
